The 3.0.1 update of iPhone OS clearly hasn't changed a lot of things in the system. Indeed, RedSn0w is alreaday able to jailbreak the 3.0.1, without having been updated by the Dev-Team.
You juste have to install the 3.0.1, and then launch RedSn0w and follow the instructions, providing a 3.0 IPSW file (and not the 3.0.1 one, which will not be recognized).

When Apple introduced iPhone OS 3.0, they gave bad news for iPhone V1 owners: support for MMS is limited to the iPhone 3G and above. Apple told that iPhone V1's hardware is not compatible with this feature... An hard to believe explanation, knowing that MMS does not require specific hardware (they are sent through IP network, so a data connection is enough) and that supporting MMS applications were already available for iPhone with all previous versions of firmware. .
